My husband and I are looking to relocate to Roseburg OR late 2007. I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions about cost of living, property taxes, night life, raising a family?? Pretty much anything! I also wanted to know what their employment is like. My husband is a new construction plumber for residential or even commercial business.... Do you think he would have enough work up there?? Another issue is the climate and weather. We want to leave Wyoming and relocate to Oregon. So I am used to cold weather, but I want to move somewhere without a lot of snow... Does it snow on the ground floor? How about the rain??? I used to live in Southern California and it rained pretty much all winter, would it be like that or am I going to have a rude awakening!! Any help would be greatly appreciated! THANKS & HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Newells - be sure to utilize the search function on this forum as well. If you go to the main Oregon forum page there is a search function at the upper right hand of the screen and if you type in Roseburg you'll find that a lot of people have probably asked questions in the past and you can use that as a guide as well. Sorry I can't give you specific info on the area.

Talking Finding a plumbing job is Roseburg or surronding areas?

Hello again! My husband and I are looking to relocate to Roseburg OR. Before I take any steps I want to ensure that he will have a good job when we get there. He is a plumber with new construction either residential or commerical (no service&repair)... It seems like there are alot of homes being built but have tried to search the newspapers, moster, google, pretty much everything I cannot find anything on anyone hiring plumbers in that area... Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look for new construction plumbing jobs??

Oregon can always use a good plumber. Roseburg and Medford are still going strong, Grants pass and Rogue River have slowed down, but I expect it to pick up this summer, we are working on surveying and subdividing this winter. Your Husband may want to connect with the Oregon Home Builders Association.

I would suggest that you try and spend a few days in each of the prospective cities. Ashland, Medford, Grants Pass and Roseburg all have a different vibe, and just a few hours in each can tell you something.
Be advised that in many areas throughout the West Coast, competition from a heavy influx of Spanish-speaking construction workers (who don't necessarily demand union wages) has lowered the compensation equation for many fields of subcontracting. That may be why you don't see advertisements for plumbers. It's cheaper to find plomeros mexicanos on short notice than to hire a fulltime plumber as a subcontractor.

Default Crime in Roseburg 2005

I was just looking at the google-raised site on Roseburg. Things looked pretty peaceful crime-wise until 2005. Then, a steady string of years with 0 murders jumped to 46!!!!! High crime index-wise for that year - well over the nat'l average. What gives?
Great pics there, by the way.
