I'm planning to spend at least a summer, and possibly an entire year, on a farm several miles (about a twenty-minute drive, I'm told) southeast from town. It's off Roberts Creek Road.

Here in Portland, I have a hybrid bike (neither a road nor a mountain bike) that has made up for my not owning a car. (I can't drive, actually.) But I don't know whether to take it down to Roseburg with me or not. I've been told that the roads are hilly and might be dangerous because there's no shoulder. But I'd like to get other opinions. How would drivers respond if I were riding a bike on Roberts Creek and other roads? Do you think it's dangerous?

Did you come and bring your bike? Hopefully you found the large biking groups that ride together here. Cycling is a huge sport here.

What areas of Oregon are popular with road cyclists? Do you see professional cyclists training in Oregon? Where would you see them? Thx.
