Hi, I am thinking of moving to the coast within a year or 2 from Chicago. I saw an older thread that the only decent doctors are in the Portland area. Is that still the case? I have a permanent heart condition. I need to see a cardiologist at least twice a year. Thanks

Look for one associated with St. Vincent Hospital.

1. No, it is not the case that the only decent doctors are in the Portland area. I expect you can find excellent cardiologists in all the larger cities in the Willamette Valley that have major hospitals: Eugene, Corvallis, Salem, etc. And also down in Medford if you were to relocate to the southern coast.

2. Finding someone within your insurance network will be the issue. Sort of hard to just toss out random recommendations.

OP, Are you moving to the West Coast, or moving to the Coast? Your answer is really immaterial.
but, What is your comfort level to commute? 30 minutes, 45, 60, 90, 120 minutes?

We were thinking the actual coast. I work from home so a job is not an issue. We are just starting the research but that thread scared me so wanted to check before I looked any further. Maybe near oceanside but totally open still. A 60 minute commute is normal for me here and won't stress me out. Thinking a 2 hour commute one way is a bit much though. Thanks for the help

Virtually every town on the coast has doctors and cardiologists.

I love Oceanside, but wi-fi/cell service isn't good there. So keep that in mind if you work from home and need internet access.

The question is whether they are decent or not.

Op, I also have to see a cardiologist but once a year, I look at their schooling and residency. I’d suggest you look at the doctors available in that area.

They are trained medical doctors. They all graduated medical school.
