I know this is such a strange question but I just can't find a supplier for raw meat!

Our dog is fed raw. In Iowa we could go to any one of a number of "meat lockers" and order cases of chicken backs & necks & wings & hindquarters. Backs were $0.19/lb and hindquarters were $0.39/lb if we ordered them by the 40# case. It worked beautifully. I could also order beef heart, liver, etc.

I've contacted a few lockers and it seems most grind sides from Cash & Carry for their ground meats, *or* they process whole animals when there are orders, *or* they get meat from Cash & Carry. I have no biz license, so no Cash & Carry.

Next we tried to find a meat "purveyor." No such luck there - the only one I've found specializes in smoked meats, deli meats, etc.

Maybe I'm not looking under the right thing? If anyone has a suggestion, I'm a little desperate. Paying $1-$2 per POUND for 100+ lb. German Shepherd is getting more than a little spendy.

Anywhere in between Portland & Salem would be great.

You know what? Go down to the Pet thread under dogs and be specific about where you live and try there , there are a number in the thread that feed raw meat but it seems like most of them are in the east or mid-west..
good luck with your search

Western Pet Supply in Raleigh Hills (between Portland and Beaverton) sells raw food for dogs & cats; I buy RadCat brand raw chicken & turkey for our cats there. I know there are other pet stores that sell raw food; Western is just the most convenient for me. Check with pet stores and veterinarians in your area.

Thank you! I didn't even realize to look for the pet thread.

Raw food that is sold as pet quality is generally contaminated which is why they sell it as pet quality instead of first quality human food. And oddly, it's more expensive than what you can get when you order by the case. We have a large freezer for Legend's food when we buy it by the case. For example - chicken backs are $0.19/lb ordered by the case and hindquarters are $0.39/lb when ordered by the case through a meat locker. So you can see why I'm eager to find somewhere I can order through. Someone mentioned Cash & Carry which would be convenient, but unfortunately I'd need a business license for that.

I've shopped at the Cash & Carry at TV Highway & 170th and have never been asked for a business license, which I don't have. I wasn't buying meat, though.
