We (my wife and three children) spend a week or so each year, mostly during the summer months or early fall, in Sunriver, Oregon.

We live in Utah, just outside of Salt Lake City. My children are ages 9, 6, and 1.

We enjoy the wooded setting, paved bike paths, swimming, and golf. We like to ski, but we enjoy Sunriver in the summer more so than in the winter.

Since Sunriver is about a 12 hour drive for us, I was wondering if anybody who has been to Sunriver, Oregon, knows of another place comparable to Sunriver, that might be nearer in proximity? When I say comparable, I mean the wooded setting, perhaps a river, with paved bike paths, swimming, and golf. Park City, Utah is close to us, but I do not consider that comparable to Sunriver. Besides, we are not looking for a place to ski, because it is the summer in Sunriver we enjoy. Is there anything out their that can rival Sunriver's summer time amenities and setting?

Have you ever been to Summit County in Colorado? You may like Frisco or Breckenridge. You may also look into Winter Park in Colorado. I would imagine Sun Valley in Idaho might be comparable too, but I've never been. I have also heard that Sandpoint, Idaho is really nice too.

Default hmmmm, maybe?

Have you been to Zion National park in Utah? We loved staying at the desert pearl inn. We would bring our bikes and do lots of hiking with the kids and listen to the river in the background. The hike into the narrows is world class and so beautiful. Not quite like sunriver, but a quick drive for you.

Jackson Hole near the Teton Pines Golf Course (Moose-Wilson Road). It really isn't the same as Sunriver, with a bike path system, but is enough off the beaten track such that biking on the road should be safe. I need to tell you that I haven't been there in probably 10 years so development may have changed that.

There are several condo developments, and Teton Village, for housing options.
