Just letting people know that the HGTV House Hunters episode featuring Lincoln City, Oregon, airs again tonight: 7:00 pm and 11:00 pm here on the west coast.
Inside info: Our newspaper's article said that the beach front duplex was bogus (not for that price and not even for sale). The house they did buy in the Olivia Beach neighborhood of Lincoln City does exist because I drove by it. I was disappointed to learn that this show is scripted, however. It was filmed during a 3 day period during March or April 2008, so as far as our "always gloomy weather" until summer, you can judge that for yourselves.

OBL, I'm glad you posted this. We just watched the episode after returning from the area today. We spent a week in Florence/Newport and had clouds, mist and fog the entire time. Still, we love the beach and all the fun things there are to do. We looked at Olivia Beach and a similar development in Newport with an eye toward moving there in a year or two.

I remember this episode...I think...if the buyers were from Cedar Crest, NM. I think I've watched every HH but missed last night's. I think it was Thursday that it featured condos in the Pearl. The places were gorgeous, and I was surprised at what was available in the 700's.

A lack of environmentally friendly houses on the Oregon Coast led a reality television company to take some liberties with the facts when making a show about finding a green home in Lincoln City.
The "House Hunters" episode, which first aired in May on Home and Garden Television, appeared to show New Mexico couple Eliot and Loren Stenzel mulling over three potential second homes in Lincoln City before opting for a house in Nelscott's Olivia Beach neighborhood.
In fact, the couple had bought their Olivia Beach home five months before the show was filmed and the other two houses were not even on the market.

A school friend of mine was the Realtor in a So. California episode and she said the same thing, that it was all over produced, she was told what to say and things we not as they said, regarding price, and improv.

Pretty much all of those shows are bogus...but just like any other TV show just keep the willing suspense of disbelief and you will enjoy it! I live in Atlanta and we had a house in our neighborhood on Designed to Sell and I was eager to see it to see how they "covered up" the most glaring flaw of the beautiful house....the fact that there is a massive power plant and power line structure next door! In all actuality they did not even mention this aspect and instead simply fixed up 2 rooms and the master bath. Then, subsequently, they said "we have an offer and hope the new owner love the house!" when in reality I think it is STILL on the market, or at least it was even two months after the show aired!

I admit to being addicted to some of the HGTV shows. It seems like they featued Oregon several times last week. My local paper does not list segment topics and I don't often get to their web site. BTW, not to go too ot, but I think both the last "design star" and the current "summer showdown" are awful. Probably won't see Oregon featured on either of these.
