also, are there certain area's not to live in as far as crime goes?
does it flood there?

There are a few posts that have described the area,so use the search function if you have not already done so.
//www.city-data.com/city/Coos-Bay-Oregon.html

You can check out the town in an hour or two.I would suggest looping through town on HWY 101,then hit Virginia( Pony Village Mall),Newmark and Ocean Blvd.

I do not know the exact areas of crime, but when I drive through Empire to Charleston, I see a fair amount of people that look like they may have used meth on a regular basis.

If you have time go out to Sunset Bay and Cape Argo as it is pretty this time of year.

I would consider North Bend over Coos Bay if I was going to live in the area.

Hi. I live here in Coos Bay, and I love it.
Bugs arent bad around here. Ive never seen a roach! I think the ones we see the most, are potato bugs. they seem to thrive here for some weird reason....
there are spiders (darn it!!) but not like an unreasonable amount...
If you are going towards Charleston on Cape Arago, there are definatly some streets I would NOT live on.
Id second the recommendation to use the search engine and look up the other threads on Coos Bay. Theres several on here with some pretty terrific infor that should be of help to you Id write more about this city I love, but Ive been up since 4.30am and Im just beat. - be more than happy to help later if you have some other specific questions that arent answered in the other Coos Bay/North Bend threads.
Good luck to your husband on his interview!!!

I have visited Coos Bay several times and don't care for North Bend as much bec of its proximity to the airport--who wants the flyover noise?

I always like the name, we did a trip south from Lapine over to the coast and headed North, Coo's bay wasn't what I expected, course I did no research, it is near alot of things to see, I loved the sand dunes, lighthouses and a few other things.

Cool "Different" weather questions & more

Greetings Everyone!

OK. Something different.

I know its rains and there's fog near the Ocean...but tell me about the Wind. Ever had a window blown-out or replaced due to high winds? Ever have shingles torn off your house? How bad is it? What is the worst month for wind?

What about Mosquito's on the beaches? Do you get bit every summer?

Can you walk barefoot on the beaches without having to be on a vigilant look-out for dog-poop everywhere?

Suppose the Ocean water was shallow and you walked into the water a bit to stand on some rock or "mini-seastack"..any reports of anyone getting killed from being bitten/attacked by a seal or sea-lion? WHEN or what time of day are they most often around?

What about walking on the beach in the evening--OR--walking in the woods. Do people get "stabbed"/tramped or "gored" by antlers from any deer or elk? What advice on how best to behave if a "horned critter" appears nearby?

Anyone in Coos Bay ever get STUNG by any jellyfish (or even an EEL?) while wading in a beach. (It'd be nice if one could safely go "up to my knees" in the water).

PORTLAND--makes everyone run theIr car thru DEQ (and they WILL want you to buy a new "Catalytic converter". I think its a money-making racket). How is it in the bay area?

How would live feel about living in Coquille, instead?

Ever been to the Casino there? What did you think? Any good live entertainment/bands/music there?...or do all the old famous people go to other larger cities?

In a year's time...what do you think are the TWO coolest, fun downtown or outdoor events that happen each year?

PARKING---I drive downtown. Pull next to curb. park. How long can I park in one place? Are there meters? or a "2 hr. parking" sign?

Living in Coos bay...to "get away for a day-drive"..is there anything cool in Roseburg? Do you like Reedsport better than Roseburg?

Any replies from anyone appreciated! Thanks in advance.

He probably realized his initial answer didn't really need to be improved on.
