I would say Eugene. It's a bigger city and you have all the college students.

You should tell your husband that the Puget Sound area has some of the driest climates west of the Cascades. They lie in the rainshadow of the Olympic Peninsula. I would think the 2 best chances for making a tattoo parlor a success would be Whidbey Island and Port Townsend. But since you want to be near your family I think your original choices would work best for you.

Thank you for your responses! Whidbey Island and Port Townsend are both beautiful! I don't think the distance is a total deal breaker, we were considering northern Idaho at one point, which is also pretty far...the fact that Coos Bay and some of the southern cities are closer is just a little plus.

I am now looking at Coos Bay and Lincoln City....I would LOVE to live by the ocean...I am getting the sense that Lincoln City would be a better choice due to the progrssive feel, as well as the tourism feel it has...any thoughts?

I'm not sure any of the coastal cities will give you the income you need. They have a large retiree population and tend to have higher unemployment rates. I can see you really struggling out there.

I personally would stick closer to one of the larger metros or areas with colleges.

Thank you so much Silverfall for your response! That is the exact impression we got when we visited there a month ago! While I love the coast, I will have to settle for visiting it and not living on it!

Hi, no real suggestions for you, but on the info about Bend, there are quite a few tattoo shops that are doing well & there is a tattoo school in Redmond (20 miles north of Bend) that has been around for about 5 years, too. Just FYI
Good luck!
Also, I can attest to the "dry side" of Washington, it is no different that the east side of Oregon. The rain all gets dropped on the west side of the cascades, it is quite pleasant on our side!
