For us after years and years with At&T we went to the Bright House combo plan which includes unlimited phone use for $109.99 a month. Getting the phone added was about $10 more than just the TV and internet that we lready had. We were paying about $50 a month for local service and another $20 for a 5 cent a minute and calling card plan with AT&T so we are saving a bundle. BTW we also dropped AT&T cellular at the same time because they didn't want to combine our phones(2 different plans that had 2 year contracts fulfilled) to a family plan. We are saving about $45 with the phones on same contract and we all have unlimited texting and added another line. We also get better reception in our house. With AT&T we had to go about a half block down the street sometimes. LOL

OOPs sorry didn't realize this was an old thread. Why don't the threads just disappear when they are old so we don't waste time reading stuff from a year or 3 years ago?

As stated, if you have internet buy a MagicJack. They work great... I bought one for a friend and shipped it to him in the UK. Now he can call anyone in the USA for free.

But if that is your only phone do you have 911 and reverse 911 like on a land phone or cell phone? How do people call you if you have magic jack?
Had never heard of it before.

It works with a normal phone. You plug the MJ into a USB port and then plug your regular phone into it. Walah, start making and receiving calls. It also has caller ID, voice mail, and call waiting. The only thing you have to do keep your pc on for it to work. As for 911, you just have to sign up with them to let them know your address in case of an emergency.

Hey thanks for the info on MagicJack. I had never heard of it. One of my kids has cell service only so that would be a good option for him.

How about Skype? Works through your computer internet. $8 a month for unlimited calls to north America including Canada & landlines in Mexico. Around $14/month for unlimited global.
