I need a good recommendation for a Bank. I'd prefer brick and mortar (not Ally) and anyone but Bank of America. I do online bill pay so they need to offer that at a reasonable rate if not free. What's the predominant bank down there? The kind that has branches in the front of megamarts?

I went with SunTrust when I moved back as Wachovia/Wells Fargo was NOT an option after my experiences with them. SunTrust has excellent services at the branches, terrific online banking/services, lots of branch locations/ATMs and have free checking if you maintain $500 per month or have Direct Deposit into the account. They provide unlimited check card purchases for $5 a month. They also have other tiers (which I have) that beyond interest checking have additional free services included.

I just switched to BOA and I am happy. I switched from SunTrust. I'd say look into regions as well as Wells Fargo and TD bank.

I think I am going to go with Wells Fargo. I have a car loan with 3 payments left with them, and I have been happy with them.

I have Wells Fargo, no problems. Free checking no matter the balance and doesn't require direct deposit. No charge for ATM if you use WF ATM's.

Free checking is no more. If you open a checking account, you have to have a minimum balance ($500?) or direct deposit to get free checking. I don't know if/when they are converting existing Wach/WF accounts to this.
