Hi,

Was wondering if you could let me have your opinions on what some of the best schools in the Oviedo and Clermont areas are? I've read that Seminole has a lot of A rated schools but can anyone recommend some and also, for those that have kids in Clermont, how do you find the schools and could you recommend one or two?

Appreciate it

Go to the Lake County Schools website.

Lake County Schools (http://www.lake.k12.fl.us/lakeschools/site/default.asp - broken link)

For elementary, in Clermont, the best schools are Grassy Lake and Lost Lake. (keep in mind that these are BIG schools and this might be a shock for folks coming from smaller towns).

For middle, East Ridge Middle.

High schools are a toss up. A brand new HS just opened, called Lake Minneola High. We don't have any ratings on that one yet. Other than that, you have South Lake High and East Ridge High. Both have their share of discipline issues, but at least now with the new school, there won't be 3,000 kids on campus at East Ridge.

Also, Grassy Lake is going to change attendance zoning. There is a meeting on Wednesday evening, so keep that in mind if you are moving to the area. You can find the details on the website.

As far as Seminole, I don't know names right off hand. You could check that district website as well. Many schools should have their letter grade on their individual website.

I do know that there has been talk about closing some of the smaller elementary schools to save money (ones with enrollment of less than 600). They closed one school last year. The budgets are under tremendous strain again this year, so there could be 3 schools closing in Seminole.

Thanks. I did have a quick look at Seminole schools yesterday. We're currently in the UK but heading over in March so wanted to have a look around if possible.

Lake County does not have a good reputation in terms of it's schools Lake County Public Schools in Tavares, FL | GreatSchools.

Seminole County has the best school system in the area, particularly Oviedo. Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) in Sanford, FL | GreatSchools

Check out Rainbow Elementary, Evans Elementary, Partin Elementary, Lawton Elementary, Jackson Heights Middle, Chiles Middle, Hagerty High and Oviedo High....all in Oviedo.

In Lake Mary, which has the second best system in Seminole County overall look at Lake Mary Elementary, Crystal Lake Elementary, Bentley Elementary, Markham Woods Middle, Millennium Middle, Sanford Middle, Lake Mary High and Seminole High.

Worth noting that the Lake Mary area school population is more diverse than Oviedo's which results in a lower overall median score/grade.

Yes, and the Clermont area is definately MUCH more diverse than you will find in Lake Mary or Oviedo. (I live there now)
