I'm a healthy adult male, age 62 and unencumbered, currently transitioniong from full-time employment to semi-retirement. I have some close friends in the Kissimmee area with whom I regularly correspond, and are encouraging me to relocate.

My problem is that Florida's service-dominant econmomy seems a particularly poor fit for my "lighthouse keeper" personality.

I don't have any problem actually getting along with other people -- my record in that respect is good, as it is with "self-starting" and punctuality / attendance. But I am drawn to employment conditions in which I can resolve problems and issues in a careful and deliberate manner -- hopefully, with some latitude for individual thinking and creativity.

I spent a few months in Central Florida back in 2005; after the usual "temp" jobs, (inclding a nightmare working in the kitchen of a Disney contractor alongside jail inmates on work-release) I finally landed a call-center job, but found the strict scripting and micro-management to be very depressing. And I am aware, due to a stint in another center up here in Pennsylvania, that that pattern has been strengthening.

So I guess my question is "How does a curmudgeon, (but one with a positive side as well), start out looking for work in a job market like Florida's?
