Hi!

My boyfriend and I want to relocate to Florida. We came down a week ago looking for good areas with low crime and not very expensive. We had no luck in the Orlando area. I heard that St. Cloud and Lake Mary fit what we are looking for. Can anyone give me suggestions? We will be living off our savings until we find jobs. I am in retail management and he is an industrial maintenance mechanic (fixes machines, welding, etc.) Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. We are going into this blind but really want to do this in the next 2 months. Thank you!!!!! We currenty live in Reading PA (one of the highest crime and drug cities in America) Its getting worse and we want to leave!

Places to live in the Orlando area that are affordable and low crime pretty much don't exist, particularly when factoring in the average salary here. Check out the Space Coast (Melbourne, Merritt Island, Palm Bay) area as your salary/savings will go further, it's fairly low crime and given your occupations think you'll find work fairly easily. The beaches are a nice perk as well, and just an hour's drive from Orlando.

Would not recommend moving to live off your savings unless you have a significant amount in savings >50k

I think my chances are better there...I could walk out the door here and get shot. There are 2-3 shootings dailey.

Your welcome and good luck! For specifics that area is under Brevard County on the Florida forum if you want to ask for more details.

There are areas of crime and there are safe areas. I wouldn't chose St Cloud. I'd chose Lake Mary but that maybe a bit more than your budget. I can suggest some close areas such as Longwood, Casselberry, Altamonte Springs, Maitland and some areas of Sanford. I'm from the Poconos and moved here 12 years. I'm glad we moved here from PA. I'm somewhat familiar with Reading as well.

Good luck!

Dawn- you are right about Reading PA, it definitely is a dump. i went to college at Kutztown University and worked in Reading for a while. sooo much crime. not to mention the surrounding mushroom farms that make the area stink like @ss on random days.
