I just landed at MCO this morning 1020 from Atlanta GA, here to see my family, but I know nothing much about Orlando. I love all the Hispanic -Salsa radio stations lol, we dont have those back in Atlanta, anyway I am looking for some thing interesting to do, but Im not interested in the over priced tourist traps. Id like to check out some home grown places that do not get the normal crowds. Im going to a place called City Walk tonight with my kid sister, but Im here til Sunday evening so any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

CityWalk is at Universal, so be prepared for tourists.. and lots of them.

Without knowing what your interests are, it's hard to give you advice on what to do.

Try The Daily City and Orlando Weekly for local events.

What's up Fly, and welcome to Orlando. There's tons going on this week in Orlando but without knowing more of what you're into I'll reserve specifics as well. Have fun at CityWalk and enjoy doing the tourist thing on that side of town, it's what were known for. Also make sure you check out DT Orlando where the locals play and reference the above sites for things you might like to see.

I like Art, I LOVE FOOD, I like Bohemian type of areas and places to eat and shop. So anyplace to eat that locals would know more about than the tourist. My girlfriend does want to visit one of those places, but we are still not sure yet. Orlanda has a lot of traffic geez lol I thought Atlanta was bad, Ill be checking this thread today so hopefully I can get some gems.

Go to Downtown... hang out in neighborhoods like Thornton Park, College Park, Winter Park, Audubon Park. You might want to eat at Stardust Video and Cafe or Dandelion Community Cafe.. both are very artsy/boho. There's a strip of N. Orange Avenue just south of Princeton that has really cool shops (vintage record shop, clothing store, art store run by local artists, some bars and cafes). Check out the Morse Museum of Art, CityArts Factory, the Orlando Museum of Art, The Menello Museum of American Art... there's a few to choose from!

Definitely check out those two links I gave you.

I think I have spent about 9 bucks in paying Tolls in two days...so not feeling that? The GPS takes me on these empty highways with tolls, but once you get down to regular streets that's where all the crazy traffic is. I'm trying to find a hip hop & R&B station on the dial, one thing when traveling I always like to hear local personalities do their thing. The hip hop stations sound like they or owned or ran by Disney or Nickolodeon, What I mean by that is the urban. Stations my play an artist like Beyonce, Keyshia Cole, 2 Chains & then all of a sudden this Gumdumb style song comes on or some othe pop top 40 song. I think Orlando has a gospel hip hop station, which is pretty interesting. Most of the time you'd only hear gospel on Sunday mornings from like 8 to 11, but I think this gospel hip hop station is 24 7. Everything just seems so family friendly & safe. Is Orlando a very religious metro? Ill try to visit more places, but what the heck or all these tolls for? Anyone know what I'm paying for?

The radio stations here are owned by clearchannel communications which is a conservative company. Orlando is not overly religious but our media is very "pop" it wasnt always like this until a handfull of companies came to dominate the market and basically took on a top 40 format. 102 Jamz used to be really good for new music, local music and new talent. Now its just like watching MTV.

As for the tolls cant help u there. I just take the local roads and deal w traffic.

The tolls exist because we don't have sufficient funding for roads/infrastructure, basic economics. You're paying to maintain them. One can either use them and move around pretty freely or sit in traffic and burn gas.
