This is the latest study (2012) balancing salary versus cost of living. Orlando was better than only recession-ravaged Riverside, California for average salary....and on par with LA and San Diego with salary adjusted for cost of living.

No surprise, the affordability factor has been in slow decline in central Florida compared to other southern cities. Orlando's "Mickey Mouse"Tourism driven economy has lead to stagflation. Everything has risen since 2009, especially in the rental market.

Exactly...thanks to all of the foreclosures, which we lead the nation in. Displaced homeowners have flooded the rental market, driving up demand and subsequently the average rent. Since we're continuing to hemorrhage foreclosures that doesn't look to be ending any time soon.

And I see an article where Chicago ranks 4th best in quality of life. Seriously? There are only 3 places in the US that offer a better quality of life than Chicago?

They obviously didn't do the survey in January

Btw, Chicago has had a HUGE uptick in violent crime/murders. I wonder if that made it into the survey.

There's more to quality of life than just the weather for most and in terms of bashing Chicago for crime, isn't that a bit the pot calling the kettle black?

Orlando: America?s third most dangerous city for families - Orlando Business Journal

Chicago is a world class city (Alpha city) and is umpteen levels above Orlando in every criteria, although clearly the same dozen or so who shout down everyone on this forum with a dissenting view think otherwise.

Um, so is NY, and it's much safer than Orlando or Chicago IMO. Orlando has nothing on chicago in terms of violent crimes and murders

Chicago leads the nation in murders and young people under 25 are often the ones who die. Last year the windy city experienced 100 more murders than New York City, even though NYC has three times as many residents.

Chicago, especially Southside is horrible for crime.

Kids in high school losing their lives.

Of course Chicago has a higher crime rate. Orlando's city population is 240,000, Chicago's city population is 2.7 million. The fact that Orlando at 1/10th the size is even in the same conversation is at best embarrassing.
