I am planning to move to the area and was wondering how much to expect to pay for electricity. Does anyone know how much per kilowatt hour the electricity is? Is it Duke or some other provider? What would the bill run for a 2,500 sq ft home without a pool? Many thanks for the help

I live in the Conway area of Orlando, and I have OUC (The New myOUC). According to their website and my last bill, this is the fee schedule:

Monthly Rate:
Customer Charge: $8.00
Consumption charges:
*First 1,000 kWh cost 6.418¢ per kWh (On my bill it says 1,000 KWH @0.10143)
*All Additional kWh (over the initial 1,000) are 7.418¢ per kWh (Bill says additional KWH @0.12143)

OUC also bundles water and trash into their monthly bill; this varies from companies in the area (I paid separately in Casselberry).

As for what your particular electric bill may run, that can have a lot of variables. It will always be higher in the summer months, sometimes dramatically. It will also go up in the winter if you use the heat too much. Also, having a newer, well maintained system will help keep the bill down, along with keeping watch over how high or low you set the thermometer.

For example, I live in 1500 sf house, keep it about 77 to 78 inside usually (some people turn it higher during the day when they're at work, but my mom is home all day so not an option), and it ranges from over $200 in the summer to a low of $100 in the fall/spring months. I have however had a bad experience with living in a larger home with a pool and a really broken down air conditioning system (seriously, couldn't keep the house under 80 degrees), and we were getting $450+ bills.

If you have more questions, and if you know the address of the where you might be moving to, you should call the utility company directly - they can answer more specifically about the past bills of the particular residence. I also always try to ask the landlord or previous tenant (I rent) about what their bills usually run them; I'm sure you could do the same if you're buying.

My house is 1600 sq ft and my highest electric bill is usually $280 in the summer and the lowest is $130. We keep the thermostat at 78 and it's comfortable.

I concur with all above. I have a 1500 sf townhouse, keep it 77 during day and 75 at night, and usually pay $250 max in summer and about $100-150 in winter.

My place is 1650 sq ft (single story detached home) and my June bill was $143. That is 78 daytime, 76 at sun down, and down to 73 when we go to bed. That is with Duke Energy (former Progress Energy) which is cheaper than OUC at least by my experience. I had a 1300 sq ft condo with OUC and my power bill was around $230 in the summer.

We have 2100 sq ft, 8 year old home, single story, 3/2/2, Hardy Plank over CBS, blown in insulation, 12 Sere A/C, decent windows, paid 130 for a/c last month. We run it at 78 degrees during the day starting at 8 and turn it off at 9. Ceiling Fans run at night and it feels cool until about 8 the next morning. We don't use the dryer but use a clothes line. Rarely use the dishwasher and wash by hand. I think the hardy plank over CBS, blown in insulation really makes this house work well for cooling. Our provider is OUC and is .10 kwh.
