We are currently renting in the Lake Howell H.S. district and we love living in Seminole county. Our kids are still a couple years away from high school but when it comes time to buy would we be better off moving into an area zoned for Oviedo or Hagerty? Lake Howell seems to be rated highly but honestly every time I drive by it looks kind of old and dingy. And it's difficult to find recent reviews about the school online so I would be interested to hear your opinions - especially if they're based on firsthand knowledge.

Thanks in advance!

Old and dingy? I have never heard that used as a criteria for whether a school is of good quality or not. Most find the quality of administration, teachers and parental involvement along with student success measures to look at. Lake Howell is rated A+ the last few years (as well as Newsweek nationally ranked) and hasn't padded it's school performance like many with magnet programs that attract students from all over the area. I would think long and hard about pulling your child out of their current social circle that'll no doubt wind up at Lake Howell, based on your perceptions of the actual buildings.

As much as I appreciate your input I never said that my opinion of the building looking "old and dingy" was the sole criteria I was basing my children's educational future on. It is merely an observation that when compared against other local schools that look sleek and modern leads me to believe that the facilities at Lake Howell may not be the most up-to-date.

I have done my research on the school and I know the rankings, however I'm looking for the opinions of people who may have attended the school or who have children who went there. People that have firsthand knowledge of the school - not just the rankings.
