My husband and I moved to Florida 1 year ago from NY as did my entire family. It has been so busy that a year just zipped past us. I really would like to get out and make friends with other couples and also get out with girlfriends from time to time, but i am having trouble figuring out how. We both commute 1 hour to and from work and are home only on weekends, live in St. Cloud. Any one have suggestions or looking to make friends? I am friendly with my neighbors, but most have children and are much older, we are in our mid 20's and some just speak broken english, which is fine but makes it hard to carry on long conversations. Any suggestions or friends are welcome!!!

What do you like to do? Join a club that relates to your interest.
What about church? Many folks in your age group ...
Organized a block party, another way to get to meet others in the area
Professional association?
Sports groups? Meet at a pub and enjoy a game, will meet new friends for sure

Good luck...

Default welcome

Welcome to the area. It does seem to take some time to meet people here. Seems everyone is just so busy.
There are many things to do around. Leu Gardens has classes that you can meet people at, there are theater groups, including one on 192 near you. Of course there are the parks and city walk and Downtown Disney, I think those are mostly for the locals There is a museum which could stand all the help it can get. There are dog parks if you have one. I haven't found them yet but I bet there are wine or dinner clubs too. It seems there are many things here. St. Cloud is a little off the beaten path and quiet but you arent far from anything really.
Have a Merry Christmas. and I'm Ken btw.

Being in a smaller town can be more difficult to make friends. You need to get out more try some of the local night spots or the area parks.

I`m kind of a hermit when it comes to hanging out with friends.

But there is plenty to do and people around just waiting to make freinds just like you.

Default Thanks for the Help!

Thanks or all of your great suggestions. I will definitely try most if not all of them. I know that people are busy, as I have been, but I think it is so important to become friendly with others in your area and to be able to go out with people who share your same interests. Sometimes you need to get away from your family to vent!! Thanks Ken for the suggestions and pleasure to speak with you.

I read all the responses and as far as I can see none of them pertain to St Cloud Florida. I know because I have lived here for a short time myself. No friends here to make unless you are a members of a Church. If not, you might as well stay indoors. No one offers friendship.

This town is small. Most have lived here all of their lives. Doors are shut to new comers unless they are active in a church. Otherwise, forget it. Might as well talk to yourself. The only new friendships that are offered are to your kids in school.

Unfriendly town is how I see it for new couples, families with kids or a widow or widower. Many complain but no one does anything about it.

Where could one start? I have no idea. No one has come up with the proper solution. Anyone out there with advice for the Older senior but not too old to enjoy life, a partner and some good conversation.
