I will be moving to orlando as a newly grad lpn. I will work in LTC or hospice care and will work night shifts and weekends and holidays in hopes of better pay. Can I expect at least 20$ an hour? Can't afford to live anything less than that. What benefits can I exepct? Does florida hire lpns in hospitals ?

I don't have first-hand knowledge for Orlando, but I can tell you my mother was an LPN for 17 years until last month, and she was only making $19.75 an hour. This wasn't in a hospital, she worked in a cancer center just outside of New Orleans.

RN's start at around $20/hr here.
LPN's make roughly $15

Also, LPN's are being somewhat phased out due to the growing popularity of RN licenses, and the increasing availability of the cheaper labor in CNAs.

By the way, my wife (BSN) did Hospice work temporarily while between jobs. Overnight Hospice pay was between $12 and $15/hr, depending on the company.

Based on the LPN's I know, Arcenal has it right. The job market for RN's is good to great, for LPN's it's not good at all. I know one LPN who is currently working as a CNA as she hasn't been able to find a LPN job since she graduated.

$20 an hour is laughable at best.

It's a ridiculous number to hope for the op. Hopefully he/she did some research on their own before having to have their bubble burst by annerk

What does starting pay where you live now have to do with starting pay anywhere else in the US? Starting pay for a bus driver in NYC is $20.96/hour. Starting pay for a bus driver in Columbus, OH is $14.75/hr. Starting pay for a bus driver in Orlando, FL is $10.21/hour.

Insert any job you want and you'll see that pay changes in different parts of the country.
