I think it's mostly about 3 things:

1. Revenue, it's not a mistake or coincidence that they included the 3 biggest metros, SFL, TB and CFL in South Florida. These areas make up huge portions of the state overall revenue and some may say or feel that they compensate for the smaller rural counties of North Florida.

2. Water. Not just the rising water but the lowering water as well, meaning the South Florida Water Management area. They want greater autonomy in controlling water usage.

3. Politics. Let's face it, if they divided the state as proposed Florida would not be a swing state anymore. SFL would be solidly blue and NFL solidly red.

I am from Miami and the state is very different north of WPB- totally different in everything - now is it the same with other states? I don't know- I know Orlando Tampa and South Fl make the money, but the politics of S-FL does not rule over the state. It's like night and day.
I though Hialeah and Key West were already different countries- I don't think the rest of the state could stand by itself --it turn into S-GA

Thumbs up Take SWFL also!!!

Southwest FL also has more in common with the panhandle than SE FL,so if it splits SWFL should be part of the north.

True- in jobs but mindset- Jax is country like the panhandle- and Tampa doesn't fall behind with the style of living and what people are looking for. I am new to Orlando, so not sure if want to be metropolitan or stay closer tot he rural way of life
