My friends husband suffered a massive heart attack this past Thursday and is currently in Florida Hospital Deland.

After almost losing him, they revived him, did a catheterization to remove a blockage, put in stents, etc.

He is currently in a coma and the issue is whether or not there is brain damage and if it is recoverable.

He woke up briefly several times yesterday, Monday and responded to nurse commands by blinking a few times. Today he is asleep again and there are some issues with seizure activity which they are trying to get under control.

All his other physical conditions are good.

Long story short, they told her today that within the week she may need to move him out of the hospital to a long term acute care facility.

We will of course get recommendations from the social/case worker at the hospital, but I would appreciate input from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

Specifically, any information about facilities in the Orlando, Daytona or Ormond area.....or anywhere in central florida as close to Deland as possible.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can respond. It may be 24 hours before I come back as I am off and on with her at the hospital. So, please don't think I am not reading if I do not respond quickly. Thanks.

Check out Select Specialty Hospital which is next to Florida Hospital's main campus right off of I-4 at Princeton Street. It's as close as you'll find other than a facility near The Villages, with the advantage of very close proximity to Florida Hospital. Good luck and hope he sees a full recovery.
