I'm new to this site, but have read through these forums quite a bit the past few days. Just a quick bit of info, I got a really great job opportunity at Disney and will be moving down to Orlando (or nearby area) at the end of the month. I'm gonna be staying with some friends temporarily till I get settled but would like to start applying for apartments now. I'm 25, single, and am looking in the range of $700-$800 if possible, whether it be a studio or a 1 bedroom. I don't need anything super luxurious or what not, but don't want anything near a high crime area (there is plenty of that here in NJ) and no bug infested or run down places. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

You could look in Altamonte Springs, Maitland and Apopka. This would allow you to used the 429 to get to the back entrance of Disney fairly quickly. On the east side you could consider the UCF/University/Waterford Lakes area. Again you would have to take toll roads but it would get you to work in a reasonable time. All good safe areas with easy access to your work and other areas of Central Florida.

A bit of advice, if you are going to be working for Disney, don't apply for apartments now. Once you get access to the Portal, there's a list of apartments in the area that offer discounts on application, reduced rent rates, and so on. But if you apply now before you have your badge, you close the doors to a lot of discounts.

Check out the Clermont side of Disney (SW side near US192 and US27) which makes for an easy commute and is a good bit safer than similarly priced options on the other side of the parks. The Cagan Crossing apartment complexes (three of them) along with The Carrington are all good choices.

I'm not sure I'd consider any of those locations as "quick" to get to Disney. You're looking at a minimum 30 minutes (if you're zippy, and probably about 45 minutes or more to get to specific on-property locations), plus you're having to pay tolls. They're good places to live, just not ideal for working at Disney.

Aside from places like Windermere and Dr. Phillips (which are likely out of the price range), many CMs live out towards Clermont, in Celebration (which again might be out of price range), or in Hunter's Creek.

Price is why I made the recommendations for areas further out. More for the money and nicer areas. Unfortunately comparable areas closer to Disney, such as Windermere, would be well out of the given budget. Other areas such as Kirkman, although closer, just aren't safe and nice.

Cagan Crossings: Affordable apartments, rentals, and amenities near Disney World
Very nice apartment community.

never ever move to Carrington- I used to be leasing agent so i know all the tricks- they will make you pay for everything for the next tenant they can think of saying you broke it- electric is scary- nothing works- we had over 30 maintenance calls- paper thin walls -We complained to Tallahassee and no help. they are the worst - and Ihave lived in apts for the past 8 yrs until I just bought- stay far from that one-see the rip off report

Seriously no offense but I don't understand why you would suggest to anyone who states in their initial post that they will be working at Disney, and suggest Altamonte Springs or Apopka. Besides, the traffic in Altamonte is hideous!

Those areas are about as far as one can get to Disney in the Orlando area.
I know by your name that you like the Altamonte Springs but really? (46 minutes, 37 miles from Altamonte)

Who on earth would want to do that when there are much closer (any nicer IMO) areas. For example the Dr. Phillips area is very nice and about 5 miles.

I do agree about avoiding completely the Kirkman road, Pine Hills area. But definitely not Seminole County.
He could find an apartment near Dr. Phillips in his price range. By the time he factored in gas, driving time, he would eat up any savings by commuting all the way to Altamonte.

Clermont and Davenport are your easiest access because "traffic" you will find- Celebration is very nice
