Record-Setting Crowd Witnesses No. 9 UCF's 4-3 Win over No. 2 Florida - UCF Knights - Official Athletics Site

They just posted what was one of the biggest wins in school history regardless of sport tonight. They played the University of Florida, who was ranked #2 Nationally (UCF was #9 as they had already picked up huge wins this year against Ole Miss, Maryland and Arkansas, all teams that were nationally ranked at the time and have been considered among the power teams in college baseball). Tonight's game was one of the most exciting of the year, with a school record crowd of 4,319 (which doesn't sound like a lot, but the place only seats 3,500, so there were literally people hanging on the rafters.). It was back and forth throughout, but UCF ended up holding on to win due to some excellent plays (and fortuitous bounces) that allowed them escape some threatening innings unscathed, and preserve their one run victory. If you get a chance on the video, watch the game saving catch by the UCF centerfielder (one of the best catches you will ever see, ever.)

While it was jam packed tonight, generally, the place is not more than 1/3 full, and they are always looking for new fans! (which is why posted it on here, because generally the sentinel doesn't do much college sports coverage unless it is football). It really is a fantastic and relaxing atmosphere, especially compared to the parking hassle you occasionally encounter at other UCF sports. I'm almost positive that parking is free for every game if you use the right garage. Also, tickets for all games with the exception of USF are $5 (USF games are a whopping $10), or if you were to buy a season ticket package, it would be $75, or if you break that down for the remaining 25 games of the season, $3 per game. If there is a better deal/buyer's surplus in town than that, I am not aware of it, especially considering that if this team takes care of business for the rest of the week, they could be in the Top 5 when the new rankings are released, and be prime contenders to appear in the College World Series!

Just figured I would put some positive local news out there. Go Knights! (perhaps UF will have to deal with a changing of the guard, or at least very serious and consistent competition in athletics (and increasingly in academics)?)
