Overall I believe this is a good thing as Orlando currently does not have a dedicated international terminal which is surprising for the high volume of international traffic that the airport handles. With this said, I also believe that the new terminal MUST be impressive enough to justify the cost and impact on operations, if the new terminal ends up being a small unimpressive building that is far removed from the main terminal then I believe many will be disappointed including the airlines that are moved there.. International terminals are critical to major airports as it is an international traveler's first impression into the country and is an opportunity for the city to showcase itself with an impressive, efficient, and welcoming facility.

It really depends on the airline and time of day, on many occasions I have walked up to counters at MCO with minimal or no wait at all. In general, international carriers and low cost carriers (such as JB and SW) that offer free checked bag services tend to have busier counters for obvious reasons.

The entire plan calls for an expansive south terminal (up to 100 gates) south of the existing terminal. I have seen renderings of it online, it has completely different look and feel than the current terminal but I'm not sure the timeline or pricetag would be for the entire expansion.

More passengers = more money.
A crowded 150 gate airport > a crowded 80 gate airport.

The goal of the airport should be to be full and vibrant.

MCO cares about passengers inbound and outbound.
They pay taxes, buy things at the airport, rent cars, etc. etc.
All which are beneficial to the coffers of Central Florida.

For those who live in CFL, the more airlines and direct flights- the cheaper (usually) and easier it is to get somewhere.

Personally, I would prefer diversion to Sanford Airport and more boosts on the smaller airports. That may not be in the cards this time around.

Also the more passengers running through the airport, the better it is for our mass transit system, including SunRail when that connection is built. I know when I lived in South Florida, even a lot the naysayers of Tri-Rail still used it for getting to and from the airport, to avoid parking at the airport, and for their guests as well to avoid having to drive to the airport to pick them up. Diverting to smaller airports removes that benefit as well.

'If'.

Currently no public transit runs to the airport save a few Lynx Buses.
Even with SunRail built the #11 bus may still be the most efficient means of getting downtown.

I think it should run 24 hours. It's a shame it doesn't. Even when and if SunRail enters MCO it will still be subject to the lack of Weekends and nights. Not particularly useful for most MANY flights.

I wish some more airports would have something like the FlyAway at LAX, which is basically a very nice shuttle bus that goes to multiple places in LA for $8-10 each way. There was even an article some time ago talking about how other airports need to do that instead of just having a public bus route at the airport.

You have super shuttle and a variety of airport shuttles to major destinations in the Orlando area.

MCO has a TON of parking nearby for low low low rates.

Don't forget a draw of the public bus is for low paid airport employees to be able to get to/from work.

No kidding, I use the airport reservations online website, rarely pay more than $5-6/day including fees, 5 min shuttle ride to the airport.

Obviously for Atlanta, sf, Chicago etc, the mass transit option is nice but it definitely can take longer than your car, and orlando is a pretty car centric city anyways

It can be great, though. We live 19 miles from ATL, but are fortunate to have a train station in the neighborhood. It takes us 40 minutes, which is slightly equivalent to drive time but can be twice as fast or more than driving at rush hour. It's a nice option for sure.
