How do you get approve for a apartment in another state? I really don't want to do the hotel storage back and forth route. I would much rather prefer to have a place before moving. Is it even realistic to do that ??Relocating to Orlando from Memphis in a couple weeks. Advice greatly appreciated.

I would not recommend renting a place sight unseen. Look at an extended stay hotel or an Airbnb in the meantime.

You can rent an apartment sight unseen, but you will be taking a chance on what you get. I've done it three times when I've moved from another state and needed an apartment. One time it started out okay but the apartment ended up having some maintenance issues and wasn't in the most ideal area. (The price was too good to be true, so that should have clued me in on something.) One time I knew that the apartment was in a pretty shady part of town (because the rent is too darn high in DC!), but aside from that, it worked out well. Most recently, I had driven around in the general area of the apartment I wanted, and the price was high for the Orlando metro area. The apartment complex was a relatively new one (open less than a year), so I took a chance on it. I just e-mailed the apartment complex through their web site and they were able to send me the application, which I scanned and sent back with a copy of my photo ID. I had to mail down my deposit (as a money order) and then was sent a lease to electronically sign. When I arrived, I signed a physical lease and picked up the keys. It went very smoothly.

Like any other decision in life, it is all about doing your research ahead of time, and hoping for availability.

I would recommend taking a trip to the area at least once before you actually move, this way you can get a feel for the area, scope out neighborhoods that interest you, and see some apartments. In the worst case scenario that you cannot make such a trip, then be sure to do ALOT of online research and also feel free to ask any questions here on C-D. Do you need advice on neighborhoods? Also, where will your job be located?
