I will be going to UCF for grad school. I have only been to Orlando to visit the theme parks so my expiriences with the city are very limited. What kind of changes can I expect. I would like to rent an apt. I want an apt in a nice, quiet and safe area. I don't wanna be "college" apt complex because college students tend to be loud and party a lot. Where should I look first? What are the people like?

If you'd like to stay close to UCF but away from the college complexes try looking in Waterford Lakes or Avalon Park. Traffic can be pretty heavy at time around the UCF area but having lived in Kendall and other parts of S. FLA I would say it's comparable or less traffic. The people, in my opinion are not THAT different. What I mean is you will definitely notice a difference in culture, but not the type of difference you would find if you moved to say Boston or Texas or the Midwest. Diversity is not as great as Miami but still fairly diverse. People will tend to be more conservative here than S. FLA in general. Hope that helps.

Orlando is slower paced then Miami and has a higher violent crime rate however we have a large Hispanic population just as Miami does.

I don`t think there is a huge difference but people who come here from Miami tell me Orlando is dull compared to Miami.

Miami is cosmopolitan Orlando is not But I think you will adjust fine here.
