Hi,
we'll be taking a long trip to FL next month (Feb 2016); we'll be staying near Disney world for 4 nights, then plan to drive to west FL to stay another 4 nights before finding another city to spend a couple of days in before heading back home to DC.

We're finding the villa/home rental prices to be a lot more than they are in Orlando.

1. Can you recommend a 'resort town' within 2 hours of Orlando? preferably a place where reasonably priced resorts are easy to find.

thanks!

Wow.. that's a lot of driving! I'd recommend St. Augustine- it's about two hours from Orlando, and is right off of 95 so it would be on your way back to DC. It's a really lovely historic down; the oldest continuously-occupied European settlement in the US. I'm not sure about accommodations but I can't imagine it being too hard to find.

Another option could be Dunnellon. Not exactly a "resort town" but you could take a couple days and have some fun at the springs. Kyaking, tubing, swimming etc... its a little different than the traditional touristy stuff people do in FL, but always promises a good time.

I second St. Augustine for on the way back. If you haven't found a place to stay on the West Coast, I would recommend Sarasota.

The Hurricane season starts June 1st.
St. Augustine is only worth 2 days tops.
If you are going to spend 4 days on the west coast of Florida go for Clearwater beaches and explore SW Florida.
