Maybe it is where you live and work in Orlando that makes you feel that way.
I came from Portland/Vancouver area and I do not think people are that different anywhere you go. I do think people are more aggressive and everything moves at a faster pace here than what I am used to. I think that it the influence of New York on Florida. The only people I have really heard complain about Orlando or Florida are on this forum. Most people think it is paradise and I generally enjoy most of my interactions with people.

Yours truly,
Redlight Runner
This is one of the single most outrageous statements I've ever heard. Run a redlight to save gas & stop congestion??? What in the hell is wrong w/folks. Anyone ever stopped to think that running red lights is ILLEGAL and leads to serious if not deadly accidents! But to answer the original question, personally I think camera's are not a bad idea.

This setup actually works well in Atlanta, however they have the Red Light system setup a little bit better there by having them timed. Orlando needs to change the setup to correct some of the traffic issues first then install the Cameras.

Did you hear this true story:
A guy got a traffic ticket (running a red light) in the mail and he went down to the local police department to complain. Why? He explained that on the day of "running a red light" he was on a business trip out of town. The Officer took the man to look at the photo that was taken. The camera at the intersection was tilted in such a way that it took a picture of the occupants of the vehicle and the plate number. The man looked at the Officer and said, "That isn't me driving, but that is my wife as a passenger." Well, well, come to find out, his wife was having an affair with the man driving their car!!! He didn't say anything to his wife that night, but called a lawyer the next morning. Divorce time!!!

Quite true, just in Florida, I've lived in Ft. Walton Beach, Gainesville, Tampa and Orlando.. attitudes in Tampa and Orlando are far worse than Gainesville & Ft. Walton Beach. Guess it either comes from the culture of the larger city, the higher percentage of transplants from up north, or the creeping influence of south Florida. If we're comparing cities, my experience has shown the average person in Tampa and Orlando is far worse than those of Seattle, Denver, San Diego, Dallas, Kansas City, St. Louis, Chicago, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Boston, and Philadelphia. I think a lot of it does have to do with the attitude of native Floridians mixing with the transplants and becoming stand-offish in general. A lack of cultural identity and city-pride has a lot to do with it compared to those other cities..

How can you measure that? Who is the "average person"? And how can you test their attitude?

I think it all depends on: A: How you meet. and B: Who you are.

I admit if you are an old white lady you may get treated worse than say a teenager, but all in all, Orlando is like any other place that has a bunch of idiots, its just dumb luck (destiny?) who you bump into.

p.s. Cameras will make people stop; and they do help. However the timing needs to be fixed. John young and Central Fl Pkwy is the longest light EVER.. incidently thats the newest camera system in my area.

Moral of the story: don't run run red lights while having an affair.
