This is a bit random and very specific, but I'm looking for a Mexican restaurant that serves red beans and white rice instead of refried beans and "Mexican rice."

I've been looking high and low, but it seems like every place I find serves exclusively Mexican rice (that yellow rice with peas) and refried beans - neither of which I like at all.
I had the best Mexican meal ever in Belize - fajitas served with this fluffy white rice with red beans and tomatoes. I've found some recipes online but was hoping to avoid the kitchen if possible.

Preferably in Winter Park/Winter Springs/Maitland/Casselberry/Longwood/Altamonte Springs, though I suppose beggars can't be choosers.

TIA!

That area is going to be mainly Americanized “Mexican” food. For what you seek, I think you’d have to venture out to the more rural parts of Apopka (the Orange County side) and Sorrento, where there tends to be a larger concentration of actual Actual Mexicans.

Thanks for that, I didn't realize. Guess I'll have to drive a bit, but at least it's not downtown.

Thanks! Belize borders Mexico and Guatemala, so the food for the most part is definitely not westernized. It was at a little hole in the wall, but I was blown away.

Fajitas are an American invention, that’s why I say it’s Americanized. I go to Mexico quite often and there are a ton of “Mexican” restaurants that only cater to Western tourists, so the fact you were able to order fajitas tells me it’s Westernized and not authentic. The only reason I bring this up is it helps to narrow down the search and as Arc mentioned there aren’t a lot of aythetnic Mexican restaurants here, but in this case that isn’t an issue since the taste you are after isn’t authentic Mexican food.

That's cool. My wife is from Belize, and my favorite food is Mexican. I had a craving for it while in San Ignacio and we ate at Rolson's Cantina. Haven't tried Waruguma, as we usually eat Belizean food while there. Will have to try it next time we go.

Mexican Restaurant Recs in Winter Park-ish area - kind of specific...
Do try Saint Añejo Mexican Kitchen & Tequileria, Red Bug Lake Road, Winter Springs, Fl. I live in Miama, but I have property one block away from them..Great Place, the food and the ambiance phnomenal, just forget about Friday Nights, the restaurant is packed.

On the Rice and Beans question, I'd give them a call.

Greetings.
