Hi there.... I am trying to find a medium soft mattress and it's been a challenge. Now I wish I'd kept the one I had before we moved. After we moved, we got a memory foam which was a nightmare, and now even this Stearns & Foster estate "plush" isn't that comfortable! I don't want it to be super soft, just comfy and definitely not firm.

It seems like all these new mattresses are the same! Does anyone know where in the world I can find one of the old fashioned "simple" mattresses? I wish I knew what it was called but I don't know what the name would be. I keep checking Craigslist. If you have any ideas, please let me know. Thank you!

Simmons Beauty Rest. If you can find an older one that has been very little used (sometimes retired people have one in a guest bedroom that has hardly been used) and you can get a good deal, go for it. You can get a new Beauty Rest, but as I understand it, the newer ones are not as good as the older ones.

If you want to go new, check out the Original Mattress Factory. https://www.originalmattress.com/

Made in Winter Park. Stores in the Orlando area.

Just a word of caution: if you're buying used, be careful. Bedbugs can be a problem. That's why buying from a retired person who has a spare mattress in the guest room is advised. And even then, be cautious and look up some videos on youtube on how to test used beds and furniture for bedbugs. Don't ever buy a bed at a thrift store.

I wouldn't touch a Tempurpedic with a 10 foot banana, but that's just me. For some people the body heat it generates is an issue. It's supposed to be good for side sleepers, though, and for people with hip problems. Never tried a Sleep Number, I heard it was good.

I agree with the OP on memory foam. Ugh. And don't get me started on pillow-tops.

I have tempurpedic because I like memory foam that doesn't have memory issues. It's just very expensive. That's the only issue. Sleep Number is similar, but they have other products too.

We looked in the major retailers like Macy’s and found their selection limited. On a whim, we went to Mattress Firm store. More selection, salesman let us try out all sorts of mattresses they had in their big store. No rush. We opted for a bed when there was a mattress for my side, another for my wife. Each side was individually adjustable. My wife had one softness need and mine was opposite. We bought a surge protector as the bed adjustment is done with electricity.
I think you should visit stores that let you check out each mattress. The store we bought at gave a 6-month deal : “you can take it home and sleep on it for 120 nights. If it’s not the perfect fit, we’ll happily pick it up and pair you with a new one”
Good luck!

I bought mine at Sam's club. After a couple years the top layer of foam gets beaten down, save your receipt and plastic bag it comes in and with their generous return policy, return it and get another one. I got smart after a bad experience with an overpriced beautyrest with individual pocket coils. After a couple years the steel coils started distorting and tearing out of their pockets creating a swell in the mattress. No help from Simmons I cut it open to view the cheap quality of mattresses today. Some of those latex foam mattresses are comfortable though.

You're welcome, klotone. We recently made a purchase at one of their other stores and were impressed with the quality. It wasn't cheap, though. One of our old Simmons beds finally gave up the ghost. The nice thing is, you can take your time and check out all the different models on the floor. They have foot guards so you don't have to take off your shoes. Hopefully you'll know which one works for you. We had our "this is the one" moment, which was cool.
