Hi! I'm new to the area and am looking for a new bank. I prefer to do my banking with credit unions. At this point, I just want to open a simple checking account. Any recommendations?

I switched from fee-sucking traditional banks to Fairwinds Credit Union a few years ago and love it. They have a number of locations and would say my only negative with them is the fact my nearest location does not have a drive through ATM. You have to park and walk up, in Florida...in the summer...in the rain...in the heat.

Hated Fairwinds. Always a problem, and twice they deposited my mone in someone else's account, then tried fighting me on it.

I have Wells Fargo account opened with my mortgage, they are so-so. Lots of options for keeping your checking free, just have to know the requirements.

I also have TD Bank, I like much better. More locations, deposits and mobile banking has been more reliable. Easier free checking terms on a budget... again learn the requirements to avoid fees.
