Good morning. Has anyone had experience with using electric and/or vibrating dog collars for training? I know they have me y settings, some 1-100 so of-course the lower the number the better. I think some also have vibrations. Thoughts on which models are the best? They sell them in many places like Chewy, Petco, PetSmart, etc.

I dont recommend them for training. The short term gains you achieve in obedience will not offset the negative and defensive/aggressive behavior that will develop later. There are tons of literature, videos, and classes you should exhaust before trying punishment devices. You have to be honest with yourself about the time you are investing into this training too. A good place to start is your local petsmart and take a basic obedience course. Owner and dog both need appropriate training.

Now if you want your dog to have outdoor time and lack borders and fences, electronic shock collars to substitute a fence is appropriate. The dog can learn and mark his own boundries to avoid shock.

As a last resort, contact your local animal shelter and tell them you need help training your dog. They take extra interest and effort to people willing to train and not surrender their pet.
