I am moving to Orlando to work at Lockheed Martin (which is near Universal). Because I have epilepsy, I cannot drive (which I guess will make life in Orlando a bit tough). I am a single woman. Do you have any suggestions for places to live on bus routes that are reasonably safe?

Bus routes are miserable, and Uber is super cheap here. Do you plan to buy or rent?

I agree with Uber.
I routinely take it to my office (downtown) and back. With the monthly pass thing, it’s like $6 for the 3 mile drive.

Since you won't have a car full-time I would recommend living in an area where you can get out on foot for groceries, shops and restaurants easily. The SODO area (south of downtown) is one and has a nice mix of services within blocks. Check out Ecco which is a newer mid-rise apt building with good security (for peace of mind, it's not "dangerous") and all the amenities. One bedrooms run around $1400-$1500 which might be steep however minus the car maybe not an issue. A little further north in the same neighborhood is the Lofts at Soho (another midrise) which is similar in quality and price.

Sodo is far from Lockheed. I agree with the idea to live close to shopping, and the closest walkable neighborhood would probably be Sand Lake private residences which is walkable to Walmart and, to some extent, to Whole Foods and dining there.

Op, what’s your budget for a rental?

I'll be well paid, so $1400/month would be okay.

The main issue you will encounter is Lockheed Martin's location. It's in the middle of a very tacky tourist district, and you will have to face that on a daily basis going to and from work. It might (or might not) drive you insane.

That being said, I agree with the post above yours, that Sand Lake/Turkey Lake area is a good idea.

Thanks. Yes, it will be interesting to see how it is to live in what I guess is the number one tourist destination for families in the US, especially since I don't even have a boyfriend right now, let alone a family.
