we will move there in the fall and have no plans yet - looking for good public school districts and then to find a house.

I like to send clients the link to the Florida Department of Education website rather than use the info from places like Great Schools or Niche, which are influenced by advertising.

Your budget and work location are other factors to consider but that site will give you the state board "grades" and show you a number of options in Orange and Seminole counties. Osceola typically has under performing schools but there are a few A's to be found in there.

Seminole County is the highest performing district overall (#4 in the state out of 67 districts) with very few under-performing schools, unlike Orange County (mid-pack ranked #25) which has some better but most average or below. In terms of sub-districts, the highest ranked in Seminole County are Oviedo-Winter Springs followed by Sanford-Lake Mary.

Do you work? Do you have to go to your place of work? There are good public schools. We can be more helpful if you tell us about a potential commute.

Also, what grades are you concerned with? If you just have one kid in high school then you can have a few really big targets that will make a home search relatively easy.
If you have a 9th grader and a 4th grader then that's a little more complicated because then you're looking for an elementary that feeds to a good middle that feeds to a good high school.

Another thing to consider.....moving in the fall usually means your kids start school here after the Florida schools have opened . Schools in Florida counties generally start around August 10. Coming in after Labor Day means they have missed about a month of school .
