Is Orlando Crime really that bad? (Kissimmee, Pine Hills: rent, violent crime, neighborhood)

Hi - New Jersey forum regular.

One of our posters put up list of "most dangerous cities", and some how, Orlando is listed as more dangerous than Newark, NJ, one of the most dangerous cities in the Northeast.

I'm considering the data skewed because cities like Houston and New Orleans didn't show up on this list.

So is it really that bad?

Orlando has broken its previous murder record of 121, set in 2006. We're now at 123, and I expect the killing to continue through the end of the year. Don't forget the other violent crime and the incredible amount of property crime. This city, by ratio of its population, is EXTREMELY VIOLENT. I can't wait to get the heck out.

Depends on where you live in Orlando, which is probably true of the other cities on the list too.
There are pockets (mainly Parramore and Pine Hills and a couple others) where most of the murders occur and petty crime takes place everywhere. Most of the murders that are not in the areas I described are domestic and most of them inside Pine Hills and Parramore are drug related. I am not naive and I am careful, but I do not think Orlando is all that scary. It can be deceiving though. An area may not look as bad as it really is just because it is newer than areas in older cities like New York and Philadelphia. That is why this forum is a good resource because safer areas can be pointed out.

I have a property in BVL and supposedly its "dangerous" but in reality its one of the safest places I've ever lived. If you don't live in a gated community here your automatically in a "bad" neighborhood LOL!!! Some people only feel safe in caves.

To answer your question NO. Just dont move somewhere that the rent is super cheap. With poverty comes crime. I lived in East Orlando for 14 years near Waterford Lakes and never had a single problem. I lived in Dallas for 2 years and have had my truck broken into twice!

Above is the link to a database, very informative and up to date. I have found with all my researching that it depends on your zip code how bad the crime is. Certain zip codes in Orlando and surrounding areas are way below the national average for crime

Kissimme and Orlando are like comparing apples to oranges. orlando is a city and kissimmee is a suburb.

More people live in Osceola than they do Orange county.
