I'm a single mother from central NJ with a 3 1/2 yr old thinking of relocating to the Orlando area. The majority of my family is now living in the Orlando area which is the ONLY reason I am thinking of moving. I am a sales professional with a good income but I travel a lot - hence the need to be near family.

I must say reading these posts is depressing.

I live in a very affluent area with very little crime, great school systems and all the amenities you could want.

I am looking for a very stable community with low crime, excellent schools, non-transitent with low foreclosurer rates.

Some area I've been told to look into are: Lake Nona, Oviedo, Lake Mary, Longwood, Doctor Phillips, Winter Pk & Baldwin Park.

Any advice or feedback you could give me on these areas or others would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Look in Oviedo, Lake Mary, and Winter Springs. All have great schools.

Don't let all the stuff you're reading scare you away. You can find the right neighborhood if you do a lot of research
Good luck!

Well as discussed in many of the forums, you're always going to have problems with crime anywhere you go..and with schools, there's always going to be trouble makers. So you just have to do your research and everything will work out accordingly.

As far as the Oviedo, Lake Mary, Winter Springs, Longwood areas..those are all north of Orlando, the suburbs I guess you could say, but are nice areas. They've started booming I'd say within the last 8-10 years or so, so while they're spread out there is a lot of people moving out that way. So workplaces, malls, & shops are starting to pop-up there too. With Interstate-4 (I-4) traffic it could take anywhere from 30-60 minutes to get into the actual Orlando area though as I-4 is pretty much the main highway to head into town.

Lake Nona is very nice..I personally live right around the corner from it. They're building a medical research center in the area as part of the local university, University of Central Florida, as well as new schools and shopping complexes. It's suppose to be really nice and bring a lot of jobs in the medical field. Some great golf courses in the area as well.

Winter Park & Baldwin Park are near each other and are both nicer areas. Winter Park is much older of an area, while Baldwin Park is more so a newer development. I personally think it's kind of expensive though.

And lastly, Dr. Phillips/Windermere/Gotha is a very very nice area, but around it can be some bad areas as well. Windermere is the much more upscale & expensive area as a lot of athletes live there in the famed "Isleworth" neighborhood such as Tiger Woods, Shaquille O'Neal, Jack Nicklaus, etc. But it is nice.
