hello everyone,

i am 26 years old and getting ready to move to Orlando. I have browsed through these forums immensely and they have been a lot of help. I will be looking at apartments in winter park, altamonte springs, casselberry, and maybe oviedo. I am not sure if you can recommend specific apartments, but even intersections or cross streets would be very helpful. I have very little idea about what kind of night life any of these areas offer too. Also if there are any cross streets or areas of those areas that might be a little bit "rougher" I would appreciate those as well.Lastly, are there any roller hockey rinks out in orlando? I play in a rec-league here in st.louis and would love to be able to keep playing in orlando. Thanks in advance for any help and I can't wait to make the move!

The YMCA has roller hockey leagues. As for apartments, I couldn't help you.

I think you'll be okay as long as you don't stay at a section 8 complex, but it also depends on your budget. Just make sure to ask them that bc they won't tell you unless you ask--at least that was how it was while I was there.

I'd say stay away from oviedo and UCF unless you want to live in noisy shoddy insecure student housing apartments

out of winter park, casselberry and altamante springs which one would have the fewest college students? I would like to distance myself as much as possible from college students (no offense, just not my scene anymore) without killing my commute. Or are there are a few areas im missing? Thanks

All the towns you listed are pretty safe, except for some small areas of Winter Park that aren't so nice. I would suggest getting a seven month lease (that's usually the shortest length people will do here in complexes), that way if the complex is bad can get out with less hassle. Sometimes these places here will play hardball about getting out of the lease early. On the other hand, the complex will give you a better deal on rent if you sign a longer lease.

In addition to looking at apartment complexes, you might want to consider renting a condo. Lots of people are choosing to rent out their units instead of selling them because the market it so poor. Generally it is cheapter, but make sure that you discuss the terms of how the property will be maintained.
