Hi. My family is relocating to Osceola County in December. Yes, I have a job already in place. I do have some questions about the schools.

We have two sons, ages 7 and 10. I would like to put them in a charter school but have been told there are waiting lists. Are these lists usually long? Any opinions on the charter schools in Osceola County?

We have also looked at the regular public schools. Depending on where we end up living, we could be in the zone for any of the following elementary schools:
Kissimmee Elementary
Central Elementary
Highland Elementary
Michigan Avenue Elementary
Reedy Creek Elementary
Does anyone have any info he/she could share about any of these particular schools? After looking at the schools web sites we're leaning towards either Reedy Creek or Michigan Avenue.

I've read a lot on the forum about Poinciana. I understand the area is trying to incorporate but is not having much luck. Poinciana is often described on these boards as high in crime. Is that true for all parts of Poinciana or are some sections better than others?

Lastly, what about Kissimmee vs. St. Cloud? My wife and I seem really drawn to St. Cloud. It is smaller, the pace seems slowers, less touristy, etc. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help!

If you can live in St. Cloud instead of City of Kissimmee, I would, I have major concerns about the City of Kissimmee. St. Cloud has more of a "town" feel and is far enough away from the tourist areas that it doesn't feel touristy. I lived for many years in Remington subdivision (not in St. Cloud but near) and there are 2 elementary schools (one is a charter) at the end of Remington Blvd. at Partin Settlement Rd., while my daughter is grown I didn't have any experience with them but my neighbors seemed to like them and there are sidewalks to the school, etc., just seemed safe to me. Just look around and don't hesitate to knock on a neighbor or 2's door if you find an area you like, they will be able to tell you best what the specific pros and cons are of the area. Like anywhere, there are good and not so good areas. Good Luck to you, this is a nice area IMO and what a great time of year to come here, the weather is going to start cooling down and it is so enjoyable when it isn't too hot.
