I would suggest one of the smaller places in downtown Mt Dora, but I am sure some others will also chime in. I am just not aware of many non chain restaurants out there.

Mt Dora is kinda far.
My grandparents have lived in the villages since 2000 and I'm up there multiple times a year. My family is from Long Island so they like eating at NY style Italian restaurants like Paulys:
Pizza restaurant, pasta dishes, sub sandwiches. The Villages, Florida. . and Katie belles:
The Villages - Lifestyle is another decent restaurant/cub that isn't a chain restaurant (not Italian). There are also plenty of good chain restaurants there. like Long Horn, Red Lobster, Chilis, Carrabbas, etc.. The only problem is i don't think the non chain restaurants that I've seen in the villages sell gift cards.

My parents live in The Villages. There are a lot of good restaurants in the Country Clubs within The Villages itself. Palmer's is nice.

Thai Ruby in Lake Sumter Landing is wonderful. Nancy Lopez Country Club has an extensive menu and is wonderful. I hear Bonefish Grill is a favorite! Italian? Red Sauce...Dining outdoors on a warm day?? Many great country club dining spots and lakeside at Sumter Landing....so many choices....why am I cooking tonight?
