Winter Park is one of the nicest cities in the Orlando metro for liberals, free thinkers, artists, musicians all that sort of thing. If thats the type of stuff you're into you'll love it. If you're moving to Florida for hunting and fishing though it might not be the best match.

Cost of living is higher than average in Winter Park. There is some serious wealth in that area...old money. It is the Palm Beach of Central Florida. However, not all parts of WP are equal. There are many affordable places that are outside of the core area, but still technically in the city of Winter Park. Those are not the places that spring to mind when people mention the city. It really depends on where you choose to live and where you shop.

Where will you both be attending school? What do you need to be close to for work and school? Maybe folks can help better with more info...

Winter Park is truly the nicest area to live in Central Florida. Absolutely beautiful with wonderful ammenities and centrally located. And of course there is Park Ave., and the Winter Park Farmers Market.
Right now due to the economy you can probably find a place to live much cheaper than say 2 years ago.
But the prevous poster is right on about the "old money" and serious wealth. Lots of it. But I also must mention the "snob factor" in WP because it is definitely there!

That's rather subjective.

I know a few people in Windermere and Dr Phillips who would disagree with that!

Well by all means, invite them to come to City Data and give THEIR opinion!!!

Windermere is very nice but you still ca't beat WP for location, culture and everything it has to offer. Dr. Phillips, not so much; crime, forclosures etc.
I am sure if you conducted a poll that most everyone would agree that WP is much prefered over Dr. Phillips. Have you checked the difference in home prices?
