A few months back, while out car shopping for my son, we came across a 2012 Suzuki SX4 crossover. Under 30K miles, like new, under $ 10k . He loved it. I called the local dealer who use to be a new Suzuki auto dealer. The service manager gave me his approval, he says they can get parts and still has a Suzuki Master Tech on staff.
My son has put on a few thousand miles and so far , so good.
Suzuki has made a small comeback I guess, I see quite a few on the streets and they look close to new ! I am an old Samurai guy , probably the most and best product, for what it is , on the trails etc. Nowdays is the Side by sides off rd, UTVs. The Sammy would fit right in as they are same size roughly as a new Side by side and, you can go on the road too !
I mis mine a lot, it was a Tintop. New Polaris now are 20,000 or more and very fast with 100 hp. I bought a Havoc a few weeks ago new, 100 hp. Was very loud, and so hot inside with a windshield I took it back. I now have a new Retro Willy’s Jeep look a like by Roxor, made in Detroit. It’s great and can be driven on highway with some added items, about 18,000. My point here is Suzuki needs to enter this market. Their off rd dealers could market it. They may make something out there that’s not imported ?
What's the best auto for an aussie to drive in the states?
Drive whatever you want. We have many Toyotas, Fords, Hondas and Chevrolets/Buicks (Holden) that you would probably be familiar with, other than the steering wheel being on the other side, of course.
I have always found them to be an innovative company. Owned both a Samurai and a Vitara. They made, and still make a wide variety of cars for different markets. They are big sellers in other countries. The small SX hatch model they had here before they exited is still seen on US roads today. Their parting message was, "America does not need Suzuki, and Suzuki does not need America". Doubtful they'll return with cars to this market
Suzuki sued Consumer Reports about 20 years ago.
Consumer Reports had tainted its review of the Suzuki small SUV.
Suzuki had a good case of winning the lawsuit. Consumer Reports would have gone bankrupt.
In the end both settled the lawsuit.
The event with CR was in 1988. I had a 87 Samurai that was slightly modified / off rd ready ,fine on the highway , just not the Interstate. For many years the Sammy was number one off road , it could go where nothing else could. It’s only been the last couple of years that some UTVs could do as well off rd , and they were not legal on the highway ! Even then ( now ) these 100 hp UTVs running 15” wheels are very uncomfortable , few have enclosed cab and heater and or AC. They are noisy, super hot inside as the big motor is under the seat, few have wipers. I was just wide enough to go on the trails, fact is at 60” it was 2 inches narrower and that was with Big Super Swamper tires. ...my lifestyle changed and I traded for a Porsche 911 cabriolet also 4 wheel drive. I love the Porsche , but really miss the Sammy......and trade for trade the 2002 Porsche and the 1987 Samauri ended up same value. ( with restoration and mods I had about 25,000 in the Sammy ) . It was a hard sell as every kid in town wanted it, but had no money. In the end it went to Florida for duck hunting, it was a rare Tintop model.
