Happy Friday, kids! Today's Tip has to do with feeding the birdies in your yard. Scroll on down.....
1. Start with the basics - Black-oil sunflower in a tubular feeder is a very effective combination for attracting a large number of birds to your yard.
2. Attract more species by adding additional types of feeders and seed - Try thistle seed (nyjer) in a tube feeder, and mixtures of black-oil sunflower, hulled sunflower, and whole peanuts in hopper and platform feeders.
3. Don't forget about alternative foods and water -Suet, fruits, mealworms, nectar and water may attract species of birds not found at traditional offerings.
Oh gawd, we have enough mess with the pigeons and their droppings on a daily basis, house, patio, walkway, antennas, vehicles, windows, yuck. How about a tip on getting rid of them.
My cat kills about 6 birds every summer. I can't put food out for them. It would be luring them to their deaths. I live in a heavily birded area and she just doesn't realize what she's doing. I mean, she knows she's killing them, but it's just instinctual. She doesn't even eat them. It's just sport.
What about feeding hummingbirds? Can you feed them high fructose corn syrup (hfcs)... or do you have to feed them that expensive sugar you can only get in Mexico??? Apparently!
