That seldom happens to me anymore but 25 years ago, when my son was in the Army, it never failed that his call came during a TV show I really wanted to watch. I was happy to hear from and glad he wanted to "call home" but still.........

The phone I can work around for obvious reasons however with a large dog and a knock at the door I must go to it and answer it........I do not live close to family so nobody visiting today.....usually someone trying to sell something or a religious cult trying to pass their views and beliefs on me.....sometimes I'd like to just set there and ask......OMG who let the dog out
Here its not so much the doorbell or the phone. Its the kids. No one can actually sit down and watch a movie without uncontrolled kids running round, screaming, yelling, constantly interrupting with stupid tattle tale stuff, arguing.
Reason #1 million Im looking forward to my relocating to OK. Not to be away from my daughter, but away from the chaos.
You've settled down to your favourite TV programme (Oh, this English spelling! ) or it might be a book you're in to, and the phone or the doorbell rings.
Around here,
a.) unplug the phone
b.) lock the gate
c.) have "no trespassing" signs on the fence
Jezer, thanks for bringing a bit of olde English with you. I love to read how you spell and word phrases.!
Great job, ol' chap!!!
I am definitely NOT one of these people who rushes to the phone. I'm a receptionist and when I'm home I don't answer the phone. In fact, I keep my lan-line with an answering machine so I can screen the callers without having to walk over to check i.d.
It doesn't bother me to let it ring and ring until it hits the answering machine.
I hate the doorbell, too, but do not answer if I'm not expecting someone.
After dealing with the public 40 hours a week I want my time to myself.
1. I never answer the land line. We get too many wrong numbers (Ours is one off from a pediatrician) and our message tells everyone to talk to us and if we are home we will come answer. It works great.
2. I can ignore the cell phone just as efficiently as the land line.
3. I never answer the doorbell unless I know someone is coming by. Everyone we know understands this and calls ahead. No solicitors allowed.
So while I find it irritating to some extent I am also great at ignoring it all.
The only time those interuptions bother me is when I'm watching a football game. I let the voice mail pick up any calls. If the door bell rings and I'm not expecting someone, I might not answer it...lol.
