Today's Question:
What's the earliest news story you remember seeing or hearing about as a child?
Hmmm - when I was little we didn't have a TV, we used the radio for entertainment more than news, and I wasn't interested in reading the newspaper until much later! I guess the first news story I can remember seeing was the wedding of Princess Margaret to Anthony Armstrong Jones - I would have been about ten.

Bonus Question:
Who is the most kind or generous person you've ever met?
I've met a few, probably too many for any one of them to stand out.

Foodie Question:
How do you like your peanut butter:
Crunchy or Smooth? Crunchy thanks
Low fat or low salt, etc? Low salt is okay, but low fat... ack!!
What do you have with peanut butter? I usually have it on its own in a sandwich.
Or are you allergic? Definitely not!

Just for fun:
Your public needs you. If you could star in a movie, what kind would it be:
Action
Comedy
Drama
Spy/intrigue - perhaps this.
Western
Other

Thanks bjh.

Happy Thursday to all.

Today's Question:
What's the earliest news story you remember seeing or hearing about as a child?

King Kong on the Empire State Building -- oh wait, that was the Million Dollar Movie on TV.

Elvis getting drafted in 1958. I was 7. The teen neighbor girl was in tears.

If you mean a hard news story, I remember Krushchev banging his fist and his shoe at the United Nations and being very afraid of him. I thought it was 1959 but I just looked it up and it was 1960 so I was 9. Both were on TV when TV was black and white. I remember being aware of a lot of mob hit stories in NYC from reading the NY Daily News but I don't remember if it was before or after the Kruschev visit.

Bonus Question:
Who is the most kind or generous person you've ever met?

I don't know money generous because I don't know who gives how much to what. I'm thinking if people have to announce it, they aren't all that generous, just looking for a pat on the back. Time generous would probably be a former neighbor who volunteered a lot.

Foodie Question:
How do you like your peanut butter:
Crunchy or Smooth?
Low fat or low salt, etc?
What do you have with peanut butter?
Or are you allergic?

Smooth. Growing up I never knew a single person who was allergic to peanuts so I'm a little dubious of all of these kids with a supposed peanut allergy these days.

A silent movie.

Can't ever imagine being an actor and 1) standing around a lot doing nothing; 2) memorizing lines ; 3) never knowing when my next paycheck is coming in or how much I will make every year. . I'd be tabloid rehab fodder, I just know it. Much rather work behind the scenes.

A Picture for Today:
Last year in March the moon was supposed to be closer to earth or something so I broke out the camera
for some night shots. Then we stumbed across this meeting of folks playing guitars, banjo, bass and violin
in a public square on a Friday eve just for the love of music. That's one of the things I really like
about Tenn. - how you find wonderful people and things around every corner when you least expect it.
Yes, it's a fuzzy picture, but I prefer this one to the crisper versions. I hope you like it, too.

Have a musical day! Thanks, just got back from the Drive In Movie. It was a perfect night for it and the shorties next to us loved Howie. They were the cutest twin girls about eight years old.

What's the earliest news story you remember seeing or hearing about as a child? On December 24, 1953 (Christmas Eve) a Wellington to Auckland, New Zealand passenger train plunged into a ravine killing almost 300 people. I had just turned 9 at the time and was traumatized by the accident.

Who is the most kind or generous person you've ever met? There is a wonderful woman in Wisconsin who volunteers her time for so many organizations. I admire her greatly. I also met many quiet givers in my fund raising career.

How do you like your peanut butter:
Crunchy please.

Good morning all from a once again drizzy England. I've got a washload going, ready in 10 minutes for the line....

Now then. The earliest news event I can clearly remember was the assassination of President Kennedy. Everybody around me here in England was shocked.

The most kind person I have ever met was a teacher at school called Mr. Simpson. He was a highly intelligent man, much too good for a school like mine. He was very ugly with greasy hair, and a lower jaw that hung open. He suffered from a physical ailment of some kind. On sight, other kid's were either frightened of him, or laughed behind his back. He had a habit of keeping a pencil longways in his mouth. I have never forgotten his great interest in each child, and how he tried to make us think for ourselves. He was a wonderful, tortured man. I ran into him on a bus, about 20 years after I left school. He looked shabby, and seemed quite ill. I sat next to him, he looked up, and said, "well, well, how are you David?" I felt quite choked to see him obviously not well. We talked during the journey, he still had that great interest in how I was doing. As I got up to leave, I said, "Mr Simpson, you are the best teacher I ever had. I have never forgotten you. Thank you for the way you made me think deeply about all sorts of things, you made a great impression on me."
He smiled, and thanked me. He lived in a small council house in my home town. I heard he had died a few years later. Unmarried, alone, and forgotten. But not by me!!

Have a nice day everyone.

Today's Question:
What's the earliest news story you remember seeing or hearing about as a child?
Believe it or not it I was actually part of the news story. Due to being rather sick, for second grade I was home schooled by the school district. A teacher would come to the house 3 days a week. The teacher had several students spread out all over town. The local newspaper decided to do a story on this. I do not know if I was the teacher's prize student or her worst basket case, but she decided I was the student she should be teaching in the newspaper's article. A reporter and photographer came to the house. A few days later my picture was in the newspaper.

Bonus Question:
Who is the most kind or generous person you've ever met?
That would have to be someone I worked with almost 30 years ago. Not only did he cut firewood for his parents house, but he would cut firewood for several elderly people as well. Anytime someone needed help he would volunteer with out being asked. He is a large and strong person who likes to rough-house and it usually took two people to take him down. However if one of our female co-workers was to start hitting him or pulled his beard, he would not defend himself as he was raised to never hit or even just push away a women. Not even while rough-housing.

Foodie Question:
How do you like your peanut butter:
Crunchy or Smooth?
Smooth, very smooth. Not even a hint of crunch.

Low fat or low salt, etc?
Don't even start with the low fat or low salt. What is the use of eating a peanut butter sandwich if it has no taste.

What do you have with peanut butter?
Strawberry jam.

Or are you allergic?
So far not allergic. But you never know as I use to not be allergic to hazel nuts. I sure do miss hazel nuts.

I could see me doing a comedy. I would not do a western as the director would take one look at me and make me the hero's sidekick.

Today Is:
Bratwurst Day
My kind of day.

Today's Question:
What's the earliest news story you remember seeing or hearing about as a child? Hmm, I didn't pay much attention to the news then, just as I don't now. I think I watched the news on the Watts riot in 1965.

Bonus Question:
Who is the most kind or generous person you've ever met? Felix is the kindest person I have ever met. Being generous is a trait held by Native Americans, so I have met many generous people throughout my life.

Foodie Question:

What do you have with peanut butter? either strawberry or grape jelly with a glass of ice cold milk.
