Wow! Now there's something unique!

Reading the article, I had to say "No s**t!" when I read this:
"A freeway route was considered until engineers realized that the shuttle could not travel under overpasses."

Now really, did they have to actually have it under consideration before thinking about the width of an overpass?

The tree in the photo that has just been cut down is beautiful. What a shame. And it's probably relatively small, compared to many of the other trees which will be taken down.

The space center intends to replant twice as many trees as it is cutting down to allow the shuttle to pass, which is great. I still find it very sad, though, that 400 mature trees have to be sacrificed.

Yeah, I figured they might plan to replant some trees to appease the public. Takes many years to mature and become useful though. Not sure why LA was chosen as a final destination...

Edwards Air Force Base where it landed on the dry lake bed is ?? 60 miles North.
Just 3-5 miles North of LAX you have Orville Wright Middle School... Wow for the kids and a plus for the school !!
Naval Base at Coronado in San Diego.. bring in by ship and off load.
80% of the tress will die due too lack of water..

Going back several years ago they had a list of place and only 3 vehicles. Johnson Space Center in Texas is not a happy camper either.
