Good morning peevers from a pleasant Southern England.
Quite often I don't have a peeve lined up for the day, and I just sit here and have a think, or I get on with one or two things and, lo and behold, there is the peeve staring at me.
That happened today when I opened up my emails and saw one from a company that I've never heard of.
I reckon that my details were passed on by a company that I do deal with, despite my best efforts to prevent that kind of thing happening.
I have also noticed that going into certain car related sites, they know the make of my car if I enter the registration number. To me that means that the central government registration centre is probably selling on info about my car.
I have the same problem. I think a lot of it comes from "bots" (slang for robots) that sail through the internet and gather info on us. But I also know that we are "sold" to other sites by some sites we visit and that really angers me. However, in the scheme of things I have learned to deal with it. Still, it feels like someone is looking over our shoulders and taking notes. Boo Hiss!
It's a fact, Jezer. Our names, addresses and other detail is passed on. Data on our driver's license, voter registration and mortgages is public information and easily accessible. A very aggravating thing occurred when I moved to Tampa. Right away I began receiving offers from a car dealership that not only knew my name, they knew exactly what make and model of car I own. The only place they could have gotten that detail was from the county. It was not from registering my vehicle for a tag, had not done that yet. It was from setting up my account for water and sewage! This county would not establish an account online or over the phone. I had to go in person and some of the detail they wanted was make and model of my car. How's that for being sold out! Side note: They also demanded a big deposit and you don't get it back unless residing at the same address for two years.
So, my dear peevers, the POTD is; Your info being passed about.
There's so much more about us which is out there, which we don't even know about. Great peeve, Jezer. Big Brother and others as well are watching.
