Today's Question:
What percentage do you usually tip for good service in a restaurant? 15% when the waiter/waitress met my expectations but I have tipped more for over and beyond service. If I get crappy service, they don't get a tip at all.

Have you ever held a job that included receiving tips and if so, what kind of job(s)? No but I did receive a tip when I was a fast-food employee at Jack in the Box ... $30 one actually This customer was a bit of a jerk and maybe he was repentant ... I dunno as his wife gave me $10 tip. Then my boss gave me another $20 and said it was from that rude customer.... I also received a card with $40 when I was doing the Bell Ringer at the Salvation Army ... The guy that handed me the card was specific that it was for me as he already donated ... I had no money for lunch until my first paycheck so that was an act of God and blew me away.

Whether as a giver or a recipient, do you have any tipping stories to tell? See above

Bonus Question:
Who do you think is the most overrated:
Actor? All of them
Actress?
All of them
News reporter?
All of them
Talk show host?
All of them
Musical group? One Direction and a few others that aren't coming to mind
Singer/solo musician? Justin Bieber, Brittney Spears, Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Lady Ga Ga, Katy Perry ... LOL! Just about everyone who's popular now

Peppershot of (Junk) Foodie Questions:

It's Slurpee day! What flavor do you want? Cherry

The company that made Twinkies went out of business recently, but Twinkies are coming back. Did you miss them? Nope ... Never did Twinkies Those suckers are highly overrated

If you drink a soda, is it more likely to be diet or regular? Regular ... If I'm gonna drink something awful, it might as well be the REAL THANG!

Caffeinated or decaf? Caffeinated as I love Mountain Dew ... Wish they did a non-caffeinated version ...

Yum or yuck: cold pizza? Yuckers

Once upon a time there was only one kind of Hershey's kisses. (Of course, chocolate is not a junk food! )
But now that there are lots of different flavors of
Hershey's kisses, which kinds do you like best? I'm not big on Hershey's Kisses but love their mint, cookies and cream and cherry cordial flavors I saw last Christmas :)

Might've had one of these once, not sure. Don't know what flavors they offer.
The company that made Twinkies went out of business recently, but Twinkies are coming back. Did you miss them?
No, because I don't care for Twinkies.
I would like Devil Dogs back, though-
Drake's Cakes brand ones disappeared along with the Hostess ones.

If you drink a soda, is it more likely to be diet or regular?
Never diet, always regular kind.
Caffeinated or decaf?
Caffeinated, never decaf
Yum or yuck: cold pizza?

The candy cane ones (white chocolate w/peppermint flavor) grew on me, and I prefer the striped "Hugs" to the plain "Kisses".

Today's question will be your server today.
Italian Restaurant in our local Mall:

Today's Question:
What percentage do you usually tip for good service in a restaurant?
Depends on the service, on extra effort, usually 20% + I round the pennies to dollars. My favorite server get more than that

Have you ever held a job that included receiving tips and if so, what kind of job(s)?
No.

Whether as a giver or a recipient, do you have any tipping stories to tell?

What's Slurpee?

The company that made Twinkies went out of business recently, but Twinkies are coming back. Did you miss them?
No. Not my kind of food.

If you drink a soda, is it more likely to be diet or regular?
I didn't had soda in many years.

Caffeinated or decaf?
I don't drink coffee, but my tea is fully caffeinated and black like coffee

Yum or yuck: cold pizza?

Today's Question:
What percentage do you usually tip for good service in a restaurant?
Never less than 18% unless the service is really bad, then 15%. Twenty percent and up for exceptionally good service. We always get treated really well at our regular restaurants because they know we're going to take care of them.
Have you ever held a job that included receiving tips and if so, what kind of job(s)?
No
Whether as a giver or a recipient, do you have any tipping stories to tell?
Oh, this is so embarrassing, but it's the only story I have. When I was 19 and living on my own, I went to a salon for my first professional haircut and left without tipping. I was very naive and honestly didn't know that you were supposed to tip. All my life, my dad had always cut my hair at home and so I had never been in a real salon before. When I realized my blunder, I was too embarrassed to go back and make it right, much to my eternal regret.

Bonus Question:
Who do you think is the most overrated:
Actor?
John Wayne
Actress?
Grace Kelly
News reporter?
Anderson Cooper
Talk show host?
Kathie Lee Gifford
Musical group?

Other non-political public figure?
Tim Tebow

Peppershot of (Junk) Foodie Questions:

It's Slurpee day! What flavor do you want?
Cherry (do they make cherry? I don't think I've ever had a Slurpee.)
The company that made Twinkies went out of business recently, but Twinkies are coming back. Did you miss them?
No, I never liked them in the first place. Totally worthless junk.
If you drink a soda, is it more likely to be diet or regular?
Diet Hansen's
Caffeinated or decaf?
Decaf. Once in a while I have a regular coffee for breakfat, but never in the evening or I won't sleep.
Yum or yuck: cold pizza?
Yuck
Once upon a time there was only one kind of Hershey's kisses. (Of course, chocolate is not a junk food! )
But now that there are lots of different flavors of
Hershey's kisses, which kinds do you like best?
I like the original, the dark chocolate and the mint chocolate flavors. As far as I'm concerned, adding nuts or stripes or whatnot is nothing more than a sneaky way of giving you less chocolate for your money.

Just for fun:
There's an old saying: "a loaf of bread, a jug of wine, and thou."

A loaf of
crusty San Francisco sourdough, a jug of Chardonnay and a wedge of Brie. (My God, I sound like one of those California yuppie snob cliches, but I genuinely like that stuff so deal with it! )

Thanks, bjh! And thanks for the link. I have been a fan of waiterrant for a long time.

News reporter? Most of them.
Talk show host? Every stinking one.

Today's Question:
What percentage do you usually tip for good service in a restaurant?
It's not required to tip here (good waitstaff are usually paid $20-$25 an hour), but most people do tip around 10% in medium and high end places. I usually 'round up' so if the bill is $22.50, I'll leave $25. Sometimes they'll get a bit more than 10%, sometimes a bit less.

Have you ever held a job that included receiving tips and if so, what kind of job(s)?
Nope

Whether as a giver or a recipient, do you have any tipping stories to tell?
The first time I went to the US (1973), I was on my own for 24 hours in NYC, while waiting for friends to join me. I was on a strict budget and didn't know it was kinda mandatory to tip. That first evening I had the cheapest dinner possible in a cafe next to the hotel and didn't leave a tip. I went back there the next morning for breakfast. I couldn't understand why the waiter (same guy from the previous night) gave me such a dirty look and took his sweet time taking my order!

Bonus Question:
Who do you think is the most overrated:
Actor?
Jack Nicholson - I dunno, he just gives me the creeps. Can't watch a movie with him in it
Actress?
Nicole Kidman
News reporter?
I don't know
Talk show host?
I watched Conan one night - for about five minutes. Ack!
Musical group?
One Direction
Singer/solo musician?
Justin Bieber
Other non-political public figure?
I dunno

Peppershot of (Junk) Foodie Questions:

It's Slurpee day! What flavor do you want?
I'll pass thanks - too cold.

The company that made Twinkies went out of business recently, but Twinkies are coming back. Did you miss them?
Nope - we didn't have them here.

If you drink a soda, is it more likely to be diet or regular?
It's a very rare event, but I'd probably go for regular.

Caffeinated or decaf?
If it's coffee, caffeinated please - if not coffee, I don't care.

Yum or yuck: cold pizza?
Double Yuck
Once upon a time there was only one kind of Hershey's kisses. (Of course, chocolate is not a junk food! )
But now that there are lots of different flavors of
Hershey's kisses, which kinds do you like best?
Hershey's doesn't taste like chocolate to me, so I'll pass thanks.

Just for fun:

A loaf of
sourdough bread, a jug of scotch whisky and Hugh Jackman (without his current beard).

Thanks bjh.

Have a great Thursday everyone.

Today's Question:
What percentage do you usually tip for good service in a restaurant?

20 percent

Have you ever held a job that included receiving tips and if so, what kind of job(s)?

waitress at a 5 and dime when I was a teen.

Whether as a giver or a recipient, do you have any tipping stories to tell?

No

Bonus Question:
Who do you think is the most overrated:
Actor?

Can't pick any comedic actor because I don't watch enough funny movies. There are actors I don't like (Tom Hanks and George Clooney, would be two) but that doesn't make them bad actors or overrated.

Actress?

Tie: Julianne Moore and Uma Thurman

News reporter?

There's a difference between an opinion jockey, a news reporter and an anchorman/woman. There are a lot of people who don't know the difference. I have no low opinion of any news reporter. But, if you really are just looking for a name affiliated with news in any way, not a reporter, I'll go with Katie Couric.

Talk show host?

Assuming you mean entertainment talk shows, don't watch them.

Musical group?

Not up on today's groups.

Singer/solo musician?

Beyonce. If you have to get on the stage half dressed and shake your butt to get attention what does that say about your musical talent? I don't see her bouncing around as an older woman. I would say other performers except I can't name a single song by Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus or the Beiber kid and I'm not even sure I could pick them out of a lineup of 5 people so if they are overrated, I wouldn't know.

Other non-political public figure?

I still have no idea who the Kardashians are or why they are famous. I know they have a TV show but I have no idea why they were given one. What exactly is their talent?

Director John Woo.

Peppershot of (Junk) Foodie Questions:

It's Slurpee day! What flavor do you want?

Are slurpees the same as icees? I like blue icees.

The company that made Twinkies went out of business recently, but Twinkies are coming back. Did you miss them?

no

If you drink a soda, is it more likely to be diet or regular?

regular

Caffeinated or decaf?

no preference

Yum or yuck: cold pizza?

Yuck and yuck to re-heated pizza, too.

Once upon a time there was only one kind of Hershey's kisses. (Of course, chocolate is not a junk food! ) But now that there are lots of different flavors of Hershey's kisses, which kinds do you like best?

The original
