I think the clap on idea is excellent, but not just for glasses. How about a small stick-on with a receiver and noise maker (like in greeting cards) that you can stick anywhere. If you habitually lose something stick one on the item and clap away! Or set it up like the find-a-phone buttons on your cordless phones.
