I still don't understand why people constantly move their hand in the air while they speak!

It is one thing to use a hand gesture to emphasize a point.

but I have noticed some people just keep moving their hand non-stop in the air while they speak.

This is especially evident on "news shows" on cable TV (say CNN prime time).

This does not seem as prevalent in places like Europe or Asia.

Ehm... we are in Europe too, you know? Some Italians are used to use hand gesture a lot. But it is not a meaningless "moving their hand non-stop in the air". We have a lot of gestures with a precise meaning. I would like to show you some examples, but now I'm writing from my mobile phone so I can't.

I wish I used my hands to make meaningless gestures while I talk. I never know what to do with my hands while I'm having a conversation with someone. So very awkward.
