I don't get any of it but I'm sure that is why I am an American...LOL
Hi CSD........ you've got to be British to get 'Hi-de-Hi........ It's an old telly show from 35 years ago. Many moons ago, before the British started flying to Spain for their holidays, they used to go to holiday camps.
They were a little like the set up in the movie The Great Escape. Lots of huts, and strange entertainment. But folks loved the glamorous grandmother and knobbly knees contests. Butlins was the most popular of this sort of thing, and all the staff wore redcoats. In Hi-de-Hi they wore yellow coats.
The writers of the show had experience doing the job way back in the 50s and 60s, and thought they could write a show based on these holiday camps. It ran for about five years, and was very popular. I guess it was a nostalgia thing even in the 80s.
Butlins still survives to this day, but on a much smaller scale. Now the Brits prefer to climb on planes and fly out to sunny climes. But, to go to Butlins when I was a boy, was every kid's dream holiday.
